The Think XR project is focused on curriculum development and the establishment of new teaching modules in the field of augmented (AR) and virtual reality (VR), which is becoming one of the key digital technologies of the future. XR represents a modern, digital, and interactive medium that enables entirely new ways of presenting information, visualizations, simulations, and learning. European expert groups recognize extended reality (XR) as a technological field with significant social and economic potential.
The purpose of the project is to develop new educational programmes, didactic approaches, and teaching methods that will enable pupils, high school students, university students, and professional staff to acquire digital competencies in the field of XR. An XR Academy will be established, combining content development, user support, and innovative pedagogical practices.
The Faculty of Electrical Engineering at the University of Ljubljana (UL FEE) participates in the project by selecting appropriate XR technologies for pedagogical use, developing new learning methodologies, designing and evaluating the user experience, and conducting research activities to support the implementation of XR in education. With its long-standing work, UL FEE contributes expertise from the fields of multimedia, computer science, and human-friendly interaction design.
The project addresses a distinct shortage of personnel and programmes in the field of XR, interaction design, and user interfaces. Global trends show that the demand for these skills will rise sharply in the coming years, with XR technologies becoming a central element of digital transformation, creative industries, Industry 4.0, healthcare, and—at an accelerated pace—the educational environment. The COVID-19 pandemic further reinforced this trend, as XR enables simulations, collaboration, and remote learning.
The Think XR project thus lays the foundation for an innovative, open, and creative learning environment that connects education, research, and industry, enabling the development of competencies for the professions of the future.
